About Me

I started a blog a few years ago when I started coaching but I didn't really have anything to say.  My posts had some observations that I didn't have much backing for so I started doing what were basically long twitter posts.  I had no central theme to the blog, it was just me talking about things that related to coaching the throws vaguely.

Now I have a much better idea of what I'm hoping to set out to do. When I started coaching I had no direction.  I knew the technique, at least well enough to have decent results when coaching others, but I didn't know the other information that's important for being a good coach.  How should I act at practice?  How do I develop a plan for a season or even a career?  How do I order what I'm coaching?  How do I fit in everything I want to do?

That's what you can expect here.  My goal is to help new coaches to figure out some of their own journeys.  It's to help version of me that was lost all those years ago.  The person who didn't know what to do so just read everything in sight and was left in more confused on what to do.

I don't want to teach you how to throw shot, hammer or discus (can we pretend javelin doesn't exist?) I want to teach you how to coach those events. I'm going to bring you through that process of what I'm doing, the situations I'm dealing with and how I resolve them.  I don't intend for this to be the ultimate source of how to be a throws coach.  I want this to be a place where people can see a throws coach develop and grow over time.  I've learned most of my lessons in life through trial and error.  Watch my trials and learn from my errors.

The daily posts are unedited, directly written and posted after the practice or meet I just experienced.  Many times I will get home from a meet and with the 1-2 hours I have before I have to head to work I will type something out quickly then run out the door.  There's no word count, page minimum or holding back.  I want it to be completely raw so you can see I'm dealing with the same situations as you and yes, I'm struggling with how to solve them as well.  I'm hoping I can show you my thought process and show you how I got to the conclusion I was happy with.  I know I won't always have the correct answer but I want to at least show you how I got the answers I do.

Thank you for reading!  If you have any questions or want to give me advice feel free to leave a comment.  Come and learn more about coaching alongside me.

Thank you,
Jeffrey Noel
